Who is MavericK Hybrids?
A farmer, two seed industry execs and a seed salesman walk into a bar… sounds like the start of a bad joke, but we think it was the start of something game changing. We’re a team of industry veterans spread across the Cornbelt, working directly with farmers to deliver elite seed genetics without the corporate overhead. No fancy offices, no middlemen, no BS – just straight talk and strong corn.
Where is MavericK Hybrids located?
Right where you are. We invest in what matters – delivering top-tier genetics to your farm – instead of fancy buildings. While our paperwork lives in central Illinois, and our seed ships from Wisconsin, we truly believe that our business lives with the farmers that use it.
How does ordering and delivery work?
There are no minimum requirements; however, only orders over 16 units qualify for free shipping. Orders are processed in the order they are confirmed, which is fancy for saying paid for. Once your order is confirmed, your delivery will be scheduled in the delivery window you selected. Prior to delivery you will be contacted to notify you when the delivery truck will be in your area. Simple as that!
What exactly is a “unit”?
A unit is an 80,000 kernel bag. For operations set up for bulk handling, we offer bulk bags that are 40 units.
What are my packaging options?
Take your pick: standard 80,000 kernel bags or bulk bags (that’s 40 units in one package). The seed’s identical, just packaged to match how you run your operation.
What seed sizes do you offer and what are the differences?
We offer seed in two sizes; medium and large. Medium seed runs 38-52#. Large seed runs 52-65#. While we can’t guarantee seed size, we do commit to providing uniform, carefully handled and processed seed with high quality and guaranteed germination as stated on the tag.
How do I pay for my seed?
Two ways: Online (ACH or credit card) or old-school check by mail. Your seed gets locked in once the money hits our account – first paid, first reserved.
Where do your genetics come from?
Let’s cut through the rumor mill: Unless you’re in product development (and bound by some serious NDAs), you don’t know where any seed company’s genetics come from. Not ours, not the big guys’, not anybody’s. That’s not us being cagey – it’s literally how the industry works. So when someone tells you they “know” where certain genetics originate? They’re either breaking contracts or spreading gossip. What we can tell you is this: We’re not locked into any single big ag pipeline. We source from elite genetics programs. We test extensively in real-world conditions, and only sell what performs. Skip the coffee shop speculation and judge us by what matters: yield data and in-field results.
Are you just using old “off-patent” varieties?
No. Let’s kill that rumor right now. Off-patent might be cheaper to source, but it won’t win you any yield contests. We didn’t spend decades building industry relationships just to peddle outdated genetics. Everything in our lineup comes from current, elite breeding programs. We’re here to compete on performance, not play in agriculture’s bargain bin. The only “old school” thing about us is how we do business – straight talk, fair prices, no games.
Are traits available?
Not yet – but here’s why that’s exciting. Right now we’re launching with high-performing conventionals while we rewrite the trait playbook behind the scenes. We’re not just waiting on trait licenses; we’re building something different. The usual trait game is a big reason seed prices are where they are. We’re working on a better way. Stay tuned… things are about to get interesting.
What’s your replant policy?
We don’t have one – and that’s by design. Here’s the math: About 7% of corn gets replanted across the Cornbelt each year. Traditional companies build that cost into every bag, meaning 93% of farmers are paying for insurance they never use. Instead, we stripped out the replant markup and passed those savings directly to you. Lower prices upfront > paying extra for “free” replant. That’s just straight economics.
What do the product names mean?
At MavericK Hybrids, we are firm believers in the US Navy principle of “KISS- Keep IT Simple, Stupid”. Why overly complicate things? First two digits = relative maturity. Last two digits = tracking number. That’s it.
Since there are no returns, what do I do with my extra seed?
Plant our stuff first, return the other stuff. We don’t have to tell you that seed is a living thing. It likes to stay cool, dry and dark. Keep it protected from rodents. Click here to learn how to conduct a seed germination test at home.
How do I get a hold of someone for help with agronomic questions?
Let’s be real: Your best resource is a trusted local expert who knows your soil, your weather, and your challenges firsthand. We’re straight shooters: Find a good local agronomist you trust, whether you’re planting our seed or not. Having said that, our agronomists are here to help. Call or email us at anytime.
Where is my local dealer?
You’re already dealing with us directly. No dealers, no sales territories, no layers of middlemen eating into your margins. Just straight from us to your farm. Simple math: Fewer people between you and your seed = better prices.
Do you have any yield data?
Sure – but let’s be real: Would you trust yield data from a seed company anyway? We run extensive trials and know our products deliver. But we’d rather you prove it to yourself. Grab an AcrePak or Corn Flight and put us to the test on your ground. Actions beat advertisements.
What seed treatments are available?
Standard fungicide and insecticide package at the 250 rate. Just the protection your seed needs. Want untreated? Order by January 1st and we’ll make it happen.
Can I spray this corn with Roundup or glyphosate?
Hard no. This is conventional corn – spray it with glyphosate & glufosinate and you’ll have the world’s most expensive burndown. But here’s the upside: You’ve got decades of proven herbicide options that work great and usually cost less than the traited programs. Your local chemical dealer knows exactly how to keep your fields clean without breaking the bank. Farmers managed weeds long before those chemicals came along, and they still do.
Do you have products that will work in my area?
We ship anywhere in the continental U.S., but we’re straight shooters about where each hybrid belongs. Hit our hybrids page for the real story on geographic fit. Don’t see options for your area? Let us know. We’re building this thing based on what farmers actually want – as demand grows in new areas, our lineup grows with it.
How are you different than the other companies online selling seed?
Simple: We’re seed industry veterans who got tired of the games. We source current, elite genetics through decades of industry relationships – not discontinued or off-patent products. We skip the salesmen, strip out the corporate overhead, and price it fairly. No investor board to please, no empty yield claims, no middleman markup – just straight-up seed professionals delivering the real deal. Want proof? Our conventionals will go head-to-head with anyone’s traited products. That’s the power of actual industry experience instead of just another website selling seed.
What is my seed warranty?
Do you offer plot corn?
We’ve got two ways to put our products to the test: AcrePaks (multiple hybrids to cover about 100 acres) or plot bags (smaller quantities perfect for your own test plot). See for yourself what our genetics can do on your ground.
